“We are very confident that New Year’s Eve in New York City will be the safest place in the world to be”, said Chief of Counterterrorism James Waters.

The celebration has been going on for more than a century, and the famous Times Square ball made its debut on December 31, 1907.
The star of New Year’s Eve went through dress rehearsal in Times Square on Wednesday.
$0: How much it costs to attend the event. “These events are rare enough that you’re more likely to get hit by a meteor, but common enough that you can’t write them off”.
In November after attacks in Paris that left 130 people dead, the Islamic State militant group, also known as ISIS, released a video that showed a glimpse of Times Square and then a suicide bomber.
100 million: What organizers expect as US television viewership.
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said on Tuesday there is no current threat the department considers to be credible ahead of Thursday’s Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration.
The force will also include 1,200 probationary police officers working their first New Year’s in uniform. The current one made its debut in 2008.
On New Year’s Eve, the room will be staffed with members of governmental and private agencies.
Reports have stated that 288 sparkling Waterford crystal triangles are being installed and added to the 2,100 other crystals to create the “Gift of Wonder” design.
Times Square officials say the 12-feet in diameter ball will be the brightest yet.

“Those 32,000 LEDs that are in the ball can be individually controlled by software”, Huntington said.
