Tina Fey found SNL writing room welcoming to women

On the show to promote her new movie, Sisters, Fey also revealed to Matt Lauer that co-star and close friend, Amy Poehler, refers to Fey as “Betty” because her real name is actually Elizabeth.

Who was it? Stern wanted to know.

In season 1, episode 14 of 30 Rock, Liz Lemon is called the c-word by TGS writer J. D. Lutz, which she is rightfully outraged by.

“I was trying to help him with a show that he was working on”, she said. She called the incident “very random” and said she was confused when she heard the message.

She said: “We always get our dresses in the middle of December and you’d need them to still fit in the first week of January”. Fey has done some fairly forgettable film work since then, in Date Night and Admission, but as a writer she did imprint Mean Girls into the culture.

I have to say, she’s pretty understanding and forgiving since that’s not such a nice word.

Their routine – this time Poehler is Ernie to Fey’s Eric – feels so well honed I suspect their amusing bones are a DNA match. We can only hope Fey had the presence of mind to quote Designing Women when dressing Quinn down.

“Matt, you ruined Christmas and gave them to me early!” she said with a smile. ‘Cause it was very random…Usually if someone will call you that, youre like, ‘I know what I did. Colin Quinn, a comic whose pointed rage I often find quite amusing, is the kind of person who probably calls a mailbox a cunt if the letter hes waiting for isnt inside.

“I asked Colin to be on 30 Rock like three times after [he called me that], and he turned me down every time”, Fey continued.

But Fey reiterated at the end of Monday’s segment that her and Quinn moved on long ago, adding that they recently reconnected at “SNL’s” 40th anniversary show.
