Tinder’s new Super Like means swiping up helps you get down

Dating app Tinder is adding a new way to show interest in potential dates.

If you stumble across a Tinder profile that deserves more than a right swipe, you can now give them a Super Like.

You’re restricted to one Super Like a day so be careful how you use it – according to Tinder you’re three times more likely to match while using one though.

Tinders users logging on today will see a new Super Like blue star icon located on the right of the tick or cross, or sometimes in the middle of them depending on the view used.

Super Like allows you to swipe up on a profile, instead of the standard left and right, and the other person will know you’ve liked them, unlike the regular format where you only find out once you’ve given them your seal of approval. Clearly it went down well, as the Super Like feature is now being rolled out around the world.

Tinder does seem to be messing around with a perfectly good formula. “Underlying it all is just creating more of what makes us human, what makes life exciting”.

However, the move also forms part of the dating app’s longer plans to monetize its users. Reflecting Tinder’s focus on younger users, the subscription runs $10 a month for users 18 to 29, while users 30 or older can expect to pay $20.

Tinder has made small alterations over the years.

Initially, the app was based on rather simple features. If you’re a Tinder Plus user you’ll get five Super Likes a day.

Alongside longer conversations and higher match conversion, Tinder cofounder and CEO Sean Rad told TechCrunch that Super Like is seeing a surprising amount of engagement from women in Australia.
