The body of Vanessa Marcotte was discovered in the woods near her mother’s Princeton home on Sunday. A state police source said the woman’s body was found naked and burned.
Marcotte’s mother reported her daughter missing Sunday night when she failed to come home from a jog around the neighborhood. Early says Marcotte grew up in nearby Leominster. Previously, right after her graduation in 2011 from Boston University she worked in different marketing companies in Boston before moving to NY.
Massachusetts State Police have launched an anonymous tip line looking for clues in the case of a woman killed after she went for a walk along a country road in her hometown.
“We want to ask anyone that was in the vicinity, from 1 to 4 on Sunday – that was walking, seen a woman walking, may have been driving by at that time – to please call the tip line”.
On Sunday afternoon, 27-year-old Vanessa Marcotte left her mother’s house to go for a run and never returned.
Though it was less than 24 hours after the death occurred, Early said that based on a preliminary review of the body, police made a decision to open a homicide investigation.
“We have a awful set of facts, a frightful set of circumstances right now”, Early said Monday.
Steve Quigley, one of Marcotte’s professors at BU, said she reached out to him on several occasions after graduation to share job and internship opportunities. It was not clear whether her murder was a random act, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said. Early warned residents of Princeton to be cautious, careful and vigilant. Police said the last homicide in the town was around 30 years ago.
In the statement, she was described as “a much loved member of the Google team.known for her ubiquitous smile, passion for volunteer work, and love of Boston sports”.

Princeton Town Administrator Nina Nazarian said townspeople are planning to hold a vigil at the First Congregational Church on Tuesday evening to show support for Marcotte’s family.
