Tips for stranded travelers as Delta cancels more flights
Her family was trying to get to Raleigh, N.C after their Delta flight was delayed.

Despite cancellations and delays at MSP, MPR News says there were few hassles for travelers at the Twin Cities airport.
The additional cancellations are meant to allow Delta “to reset the operation and get crews, aircraft and other operational elements in place to take care of customers”, the company said.
Passengers check in at the Delta Air Lines counter at Narita worldwide airport in Narita, east of Tokyo, yesterday.
The utility company that delivers electricity to Delta disputed the airline’s explanation.
Delta said Monday that it was looking into what caused the system outage. “Our flights had been bumped from Delta to Air Canada, and our flight was going to be at 11:00 through Air Canada”. Eastern after it grounded 1,000 flights on Monday.
Delta says that you are entitled to a refund or a one-time change to your ticket without a fee if your flight is cancelled or significantly delayed.
According to The New York Times, the outage occurred when a failed piece of electrical equipment at a facility in Atlanta triggered a shut down of airline’s computer system that manages booking, baggage and airplane communications.
Delta spokesman Trebor Banstetter said that after the power outage, key systems and network equipment did not switch over to backups.
Airlines have been packing more people in each plane, so when a major carrier has a technology crash it’s harder to find seats for the waylaid.
Last month, Southwest Airlines issued formal apologies and a host of rebates to passengers affected by 2,300 cancellations and 8,000 delayed flights when its computer systems, already taxed by an airline merger in 2010, collapsed.
For passengers, hardship from the early morning meltdown was compounded by the fact that Delta’s flight-status updates weren’t working either.
Dozens of others passengers who had been anxiously waiting to get out of line and onto a plane said they, too, were fed up. About 3,000 flights were delayed after an outage at its Atlanta headquarters. A second Atlanta flight later in the morning was delayed, according to the airport’s website.
The airline was back online after a number of hours on Monday, but the outages were so widespread that it is still dealing with the ripple effects a day later. Even brief outages can snarl traffic and cause long delays.
Some passengers said they were shocked that computer glitches could cause such turmoil.

The system the airline uses to check in and board passengers as well as dispatch its planes is still slow, said Gil West, Delta’s chief operating officer.
