Titan partners HP to launch smart watch

Titan Company Ltd has informed BSE that Titan Company Limited and HP Inc., one of the world’s leading information technology companies, have come together to launch a range of smart watches, later this year in India and select worldwide markets.

India is likely to become a big market for wearable technologies, which includes smartwatches and digital fitness trackers, with consumers showing an increased interest in these latest smart connected devices.

Titan may be relatively unknown outside India today, but it has the scale (7000 employees) and financial muscle to propel itself onto a global stage with its first smartwatch. “Our entry into the smartwatch market is another step in this direction”, S. Ravi Kant, the CEO of Titan’s watches and accessories division, said as part of the same release. The new relationship between HP Inc and Titan combine innovative materials, design and custom technology to deliver products that are responsive, and not intrusive, Titan Co said in a statement.

This range of smartwatches is said to bring a transformation in the way people look at the art of timekeeping and beyond.

HP general manager for wearables and smart platforms Sridhar Solur told the newspaper that they joint venture would create a high tech watch that did not compromise on style. Still, consumers are forced to sacrifice form for function with some smart accessories available in the market. Like with other Engineered by HP smartwatches, it’s supplying the underlying hardware and software while the watch brand focuses mostly on design and manufacturing.
