On Wednesday, Craig Sager underwent his third bone marrow transplant in a continued effort to treat an aggressive form of leukemia that he’s battled since 2014.

The sports world is rallying around beloved TNT reporter Craig Sager, as he continues his battle with leukemia.

Sager’s family appreciated Barkley’s visit. And fortunately TNT colleague and Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley is one of them.

Upon hearing the news that Sager wouldn’t have his strongest supporter by his side is when Barkley made a decision to travel to Houston, against his own doctor’s orders, to be at Sager’s bed-side.

However, Sir Charles had hip replacement surgery less than a month ago and wasn’t cleared to travel. Barkley’s doctors in Phoenix were reportedly angry that Barkley made the trip, citing an emergency.

“Craig Sager is one of the most interesting people I’ve ever met”, Barkley told The Associated Press .

“Thanks to an anonymous donor, tmrw my Dad will enter an unimaginable milestone w/ his 3rd bone marrow/stem cell transplant in a 3year span”, the younger Sager wrote. “When you go to try and cheer him up his attitude is so upbeat he cheers you up”. The procedure was expected to take some 10 hours.
