“We will curtail the facilities given to separatists”. Besides these, the Centre would also scrutinise their bank accounts and complete investigations in pending cases against them to send out a strong message to those provoking youths in Kashmir Valley to create disturbance since the killing of Hizbul militant Burhan Wani.

This was after Union home Minister Rajnath Singh – who led the 26-member delegation to the twin capitals of Srinagar and Jammu -briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an hour on Tuesday on the situation in Kashmir.

The Prime Minister is said to have conveyed that time had come to act tough with the separatists, sources said. Hundreds of protesters chanting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans attended his funeral in Baramulla district.

The all-party delegation is expected to meet in Delhi on Wednesday to discuss the issues that came up during meetings with various delegations during the two-day visit.

Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Sitaram Yechury, Janata Dal-United’s Sharad Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Dal’s Jaiprakash Narayan Yadav, AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi and Communist Party of India’s D. Raja had gone to meet Hurriyat leaders but the latter declined to meet them.

Visibly disappointed, the minister hinted that any chance of talks with the separatists in the near future was impossible.

It may be recalled that on Monday, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had expressed his displeasure over the decision of Kashmiri separatists to refuse talks with members of the all-party delegation that visited Kashmir. The separatists accused the Centre of not being earnest in solving the problem in the state. “I appeal to the press to bear in mind that the goings-on in Kashmir are a concern to us all and we need to support of everyone to overcome them”, he urged, pointing out that, “when I had come here (Kashmir) on July 24 and 25, people complained to me about the pellet guns”. “We met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and proposed that he should lead a delegation of Sufi scholars and clerics to Kashmir”.
