To Kill A Mockingbird author Harper Lee dies
Monroe County Coroner Robert Malone declined to comment on Lee’s death Friday, but Conner’s statement indicates that “Ms. Lee passed away in her sleep early this morning”. She would have a private funeral. It proved more of an incomplete draft – though it was published previous year, under the title “Go Set a Watchman”, causing a great disturbance among her longtime fans.

In the first book, Atticus Finch is the adored father of the young narrator, Scout, and a lawyer who nobly but unsuccessfully defends a black man unjustly accused of raping a white woman. We are missing who we think Lee might have been.
Neighbors knew all about Lee’s dislike for the media and for surprise visitors, so they would rarely direct outsiders to the red-brick home where she lived with her sister for years when not in NY. “She was quoting Thomas More and setting me straight on Tudor history”.
“I never expected any sort of success with ‘Mockingbird, ‘ ” Lee told a radio interviewer in 1964.
But her appeal was so enormous that the book topped the bestseller list for weeks.
“You wish somebody like that could go on forever and be this lifelong legend”, he said.
Upon her passing, she leaves a huge void in the literary world. She remained close to his family and Peck’s grandson, Harper Peck Voll, is named for her.
She did however quietly attend annual award ceremonies held by The University of Alabama for a writing contest inspired by her work. Though Lee had a stroke several years ago, she had been in good health despite her age recently.
“The one thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is a person’s conscience”.
Born Nelle Harper Lee on April 28, 1926, Lee became famous for her 1961 book, To Kill a Mockingbird.
“Thank you Harper Lee for Atticus, Boo, Scout & the rest”.
“I know it exists because (Lee’s) sister Louise told me”, said Mr Flynt, speaking over the summer in Lee’s hometown of Monroeville, Alabama.
“To Kill a Mockingbird” is, unequivocally, one of the great American classics.
Her famous novel about a young girl’s experience of racial tensions in a small Southern town has sold tens of millions of copies and been translated into dozens of languages.
Lee was there with us then, she is here with us now, and she will be with us forever, just as surely as Atticus will always be there for his children.
The significance of Lee’s words and her characters will continue to live on, long after her death. Her mannerly, down-home approach undoubtedly smoothed the way for the flamboyant Capote.
Pulitzer Prize winning author, Nelle Harper Lee, has died at the age of 89, according to family members. Lee also assisted Capote in researching In Cold Blood, a nonfiction novel about the 1959 murders of the Clutter family in Kansas. “Harper Lee is a genius”.

“People, for generations now in schools have been reading the book and discussing it and our idea of social justice in this country, in great part has been shaped by people reading it and discussing it”.
