To prop up his campaign, Trump turns to a media provocateur

These are all atmospheric conditions that Donald Trump’s campaign could be compared to ― but on CNN on Wednesday, former Breitbart News editor-at-large Ben Shapiro chose “turd tornado”. He promoted GOP pollster Kellyanne Conway to campaign manager.

She added, “We’re concerned, but that’s what campaigns are for”.

But Bannon’s ascension might be something new: The first time a major presidential campaign will be run by the man who directed an entire media organization to become aligned with the candidate before his appointment.

Trump, who relishes revving up crowds with off-the-cuff remarks, drew criticism for comments insulting women, Muslims and Mexican immigrants during the primary campaign for the Republican nomination.

Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager said Wednesday that Donald Trump has made a decision to “double down on his most small, nasty, and divisive instincts” by bringing in a new chief executive for his presidential run.

Bannon’s new campaign CEO role may foreshadow an even more forceful posture by Trump heading into the fall debates. (Trump spokesperson Katrina Pierson denied the report that Ailes is working with the campaign on Wednesday.) Ailes also helped ready Ronald Reagan and George Bush for their presidential debates. Wednesday’s announcements come less than three months before Trump’s Election Day faceoff with Democrat Hillary Clinton, and roughly six weeks before early voting begins.

“There is no new Donald Trump”, she said.

During a tour of the Cleveland High School she was speaking at Clinton ignored reporters in her press pool as they shouted questions at her about the latest chaos in Trump’s campaign before her rally. He has struggled to offer voters a consistent message, overshadowing formal policy speeches with a stream of controversies, including a public feud with an American Muslim family whose son was killed while serving in the military in Iraq.

Trump’s campaign is also likely to look more extreme, which can not help the flailing candidate in the suburban, highly educated precincts in states such as Pennsylvania, Virginia, Colorado and North Carolina where he is hemorrhaging more upscale Republican votes. Trump also received his first classified national security briefing at a Federal Bureau of Investigation field office in lower Manhattan.

Trump skeptics say that staff changes will accomplish nothing if the candidate himself doesn’t turn the focus of the campaign away from his own controversial statements and personality and onto his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton.

During an interview with Fox News broadcast afterward, Trump lashed out again, saying he had scant trust in the intelligence community delivering the briefing, and would be unlikely to install any members of the current security establishment in his presidential administration “because they’ve made such bad decisions”.

Bannon, a frequent adviser to Trump, is known for his brass-knuckled demeanor and his website’s sharp tone.

“I think Trump wants to lose but have media control over 25 percent of the party so he can make money off of them”.

Corey Lewandowski, who was sacked as Trump campaign manager in June, said that hiring Mr. Bannon shows that Mr. Trump was running to win. In recent months Breitbart has celebrated moments when Trump’s rhetoric has hewed closely to the site’s editorial position. Other staff is also expected to be brought on in the coming days.

She said Mr Trump has a history of beating expectations and can not be counted out. “This is it”, she said.
