Today is Cyber Monday! Lo

For those who couldn’t wait to spend money, both Wal-Mart and Target launched their Cyber Monday shopping blitz sales Sunday with deals that would match or beat the discounts they offered on Black Friday. It’s best to stick to reputable, well-known companies.

That tends to limit the impact of Black Friday specials.

Retailers which saw their websites struggling to cope with the volume of traffic on Friday will be hoping to avoid a repeat of problems today.

Cyber Monday developed quite naturally as online sales on the Monday following the Thanksgiving holiday had spiked in the several years prior to the naming of the new holiday.

Cyber security expert Dave Whitelegg said: “Lots of breaches occur months after credit and debit card details have been stolen. If the price seems too good to be true, it usually is”. That’s up more than 14 percent since previous year.

Many Irish retailers may not take part in Cyber Monday, such was the demand on Black Friday – but some of the big United Kingdom retailers and online giants will be providing bargains.

High street retailers were unable to replicate last year’s Black Friday crowds as attendance figures sharply fell.

‘It looks like Black Friday has cemented its place as the busiest online shopping day of the year, ‘ said a spokesperson for Visa Europe, one of the continent’s largest payment firms.

“The growth of click and collect in supporting store visits should not be underestimated, particularly for retail parks, with many shoppers now opting to buy online but to then visit stores to pick up their purchases”. This year it’s been more muted.

Total online sales for Cyber Monday are forecast to hit the $3 billion mark for the first time and increase 12 percent compared with previous year, according to digital marketing research firm Adobe Digital Index.
