The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says one of the toddlers involved in an accidental shooting Thursday night has passed away.

The accident happened around 6:30 p.m.at 228 Meredith Square in an apartment-townhouse development near Richland Northeast High School. The station reports one child was in serious condition before undergoing surgery and passing away.
A 2-year-old girl was killed and her 4-year-old sister seriously injured after accidental gunfire erupted inside their SC home Thursday evening, police said. Her 4-year-old sister’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Deputies said preliminary information revealed that as the father was attempting to clear the handgun, he accidentally discharged it, striking him in the hand, and both of his daughters in the upper body. The mother was home at the time but was not injured.

The Richland County Coroner has not released the name of the child who died in this shooting.
