‘Together’ for Android Wear is being shut down on September 30th

Google says a lot of the features in the watch face will be integrated into Android Wear 2.0, though of course the new watch OS won’t roll out to all Android Wear devices. So far, Android Wear 2.0 is scheduled for a fall release, but Google hasn’t been more specific about the update’s release schedule. The application helped users to communicate with their family or friends by using emojis, photos or drawings.

That’s not quite as fun as the features found in Together, but it’s something, at least. According to the company, some of the features of the Together watch face will be directly integrated into Android Wear 2.0, while others will simply disappear.

If you’re unfamiliar with Together, it was a particular watchface that could be used for the device that carried along some functionality with it.

“Thanks for using Together”. Unfortunately, even if your device won’t get Android Wear 2.0, Together will no longer function.

It seems, however, that Together didn’t become as popular as Google would have hoped, and the company will be shutting down the feature in an upcoming version of Android Wear. Who knows, maybe Google is preparing us another surprise.

What’s even worse is that future updates that would be available to Wear 2.0 will not reach first-generation Wear watches.

It may well appear at the same time as the new Nexus phones and Android 7.0 Nougat, which would make more sense if Google does indeed have a Nexus smartwatch in the pipeline and ready to launch. Users will be able to press one side button and access voice search.

“With the release of Android Wear 2.0, numerous best features of Together will be integrated directly into the platform so you can connect with more people using your favorite messaging services”. We will see if saying goodbye to Together, the social face of Android, was the right thing to do. That means they’re basically going to miss out on the replacement features and lose the current ones too, but there’s a small possibility that Google has something up its sleeve for them, or else there might be heck to pay.
