Toho’s ‘Godzilla’ Reboot Gets A Solemn War-Movie-Style Trailer

There are few anime series as revered as Neon Genesis Evangelion. The third official full-length trailer has debuted for Godzilla: Resurgence, the new Godzilla movie from Toho Company in Japan, co-directed by Hideaki Anno & Shinji Higuchi.

“To all the Evangelion fans, I’m really, really keeping you all waiting. However, since it is a fact that I’m making everyone wait, I deeply apologize for that”. “It’s a work that chips off parts of me”.

Toho previously revealed they will utilize CG technology for the film with Higuchi calling it the “most terrifying” version of Godzilla to date.

This trailer for Godzilla Resurgence, like the two brief teasers before it, ooze the influence of Anno’s direction and art style: from the ominous orchestrated music, to the fleshy nuclear decay to Godzilla’s design and explosive force of artillery against the gargantuan force of nature.

▼ The locations of Kamakura (shown in red) and Musashi Kosugi (green) mean that if he takes an overland route, Godzilla’s path of destruction will be at least 27.3 kilometers (17 miles) long.

True enough, Anno was probably really preoccupied with Godzilla: Resurgence causing the delay of the final Eva film, as initially speculated in the news. Even if you aren’t that into Evangelion, I strongly recommend watching The Rebuild of Evangelion.
