As is usually the case for teams early in the preseason, the New England Patriots plan to sit a number of their top players in their preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints on Thursday. The regular season begins on September 11, so Mitchell has a month to let his arm recover and heal if the injury proves to be relatively minor. The preseason is especially important for National Football League rookies who are looking to establish themselves with their new team.

When it comes to Unger, he’s not only a great center, but also an important guy to have around, so look for Mickey Loomis to extend his contract further into the future as soon as possible. Of course, you are not thrilled seeing your quarterback leap into the air and challenge defenders too often.

Pederson will script opening plays for all the quarterbacks.
