EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – Tom Coughlin said goodbye to the New York Giants on Tuesday.
Mara was asked about various issues surrounding the Giants’ coaching search and made it clear he would pursue all avenues, including trading draft picks for a coach if needed.
Now New York needs to decide whether to go forward with a full-scale rebuild, or whether to add pieces to what is a depleted roster. There was some speculation that both would be gone after a rough season in NY, but it now appears that Reese will keep his job for the time being.
While with the Giants, Coughlin had a record of 110-92 as head coach, mostly with Eli Manning as his quarterback.
“Tom’s had a great career as a head coach and as an assistant coach – BC [Boston College], Jacksonville, New York”, Belichick said. “We have a great relationship at the Giants when we were on the same staff and had good relationships through our respective careers”. Many expected him to either be fired or find out if he had another 2011, a year in which he won a Super Bowl after barely holing onto his job, in him.

Mara also revealed the team would like Coughlin to come back in an advisory role.
Impressively, Coughlin also changed in those first few years. The Giants won in another upset, 21-17.

The 69-year-old Coughlin invited his entire family to Sunday’s game in anticipation of a split with the Giants.
