Tom Coughlin steps down as Giants coach

Tom Coughlin stepped down as head coach of the National Football League’s New York Giants on Monday after a 12-year reign with the team that produced two Super Bowl triumphs.

He went on to thank team owners John Mara and Steve Tisch and general manager Jerry Reese, along with his players and extended Giants’ family, for their encouragement over his esteemed tenure with Big Blue. His age and salary were among the top searches associated with his name Monday, as Google Trends shows.

Keep in mind that the Giants already have a solid QB situation with Eli Manning and one of the best wideouts in the game in Odell Beckham.

A no-nonsense coach, Coughlin vowed to restore Giants pride and it didn’t take long. So needless to say, he has become beloved among Giants fans and within the organization itself.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as head coach of the New York Football Giants”. This is not a sad occasion for me.

A day after an emotional Manning declared the Giants had “failed” their now-former coach, Coughlin absolved his quarterback for the recent struggles that greased Coughlin’s exit after 12 seasons. Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reported that a source revealed that if another opportunity presents itself, he will coach again. It didn’t happen because the Giants lost six games either in the final 1:14 of regulation or in overtime. He said he will find a way to stay involved in the game and with players, because his wife wouldn’t want him home for more than 48 hours. “I’ll always love him for that”. “He’s just a good man. He’s a good role model for any person whether you played under him, and I think a lot of people have great respect for him”.

“It is hard to come up with words adequate to describe the appreciation we have for everything Tom Coughlin has done for our franchise”, Mara said.

“He can handle it all”, Coughlin said of Manning to Hubbuch. It would lead to a total overhaul of a new Giants’ offense that has been solid since his takeover last season.

“He agreed to do that and I don’t think either one of us have an idea yet exactly what form that might take”.
