Tom Cruise Boards ‘Mummy’ Remake

Universal have not confirmed the actor as a cast member but authoritative internet film library IMDb has listed him and Algerian actress Sofia Boutella, who featured in the 2014 film Kingsman: The secret service, as leading characters. Even more important, however, is that long-rumored star Tom Cruise has officially boarded the project.

The Universal classic monsters movie universe looks like it’ll begin in 2017 now, with the confirmation that the reboot of The Mummy has its release date.

The relaunch plans for The Mummy received a significant move back in April 2015 as it was planned for June 2016 and was bumped back to March 24th, 2017. So you can expect shooting to start relatively soon. Kurtzman will be joined by Chris Morgan and Sean Daniel, who will be producing.

Jon Spaihts is penning the script. Plot details are vague other than it will be set in the present day, unlike the previous three installments starring Brendan Fraser. Additionally, the remake of The Mummy is a pretty big deal for Universal, as it is apparently to be the first film in their shared monster universe.

“The Mummy” is set to release on June 9th, 2017.

Variety reports Cruise is not expected to produce (he always likes to add a producer credit to the movies he stars in), but that he will play a large role in the movie’s development.

The Mummy will now arrive in June 2017
