Tom Daley: ‘European Championship disappointment motivated us in Rio’
Daley, 22, said he and Goodfellow had not even expected to qualify for the Olympics, having worked together for less than a year.

A surprise star of Peaty’s story has been his adoring grandmother, Mavis Williams, who roared him on from her home in Sheffield before tweeting her congratulations to the victor and his coach.
The Olympic medalist was obscured from coverage by the celebrity engulfing Tom Daley, who featured prominently in stories about their triumph at Rio.
Daley, who won the bronze medal for synchronised diving yesterday alongside partner Dan Goodfellow, thanked fans for their continued support and teased that there was more to come. It’s everyone around me. We were stood there and knew we had done a good dive but were didn’t know if we’d done enough. But at the end of the day there is someone walking their dog in the park who has no idea what is going on. “Anything we can to get my body just right”.
Tom Daley and Daniel Goodfellow won Team GB’s fourth medal of the Olympics after winning bronze in the men’s 10m synchronised diving competition.
But Daley, whose individual 10m platform event begins on August 19, admits to still feeling the jitters ahead of taking the plunge.
China’s Chen Aisen and Qiu Bo – the world champion – are both major threats to Daley, as is reigning Olympic champion David Boudia of the United States. The intensity of preparing and performing in a home Olympics four years ago made him sick of what he was doing.
“I’m going in with the mentality that the Chinese have to beat me”. The duo, unbeaten since 2011, won their heat to reach the semi-final but not without alarm as they were pushed to the line by the team from Denmark.
He said: “I think he wants to come back to the farm and he wants to come back to the family”. That is what I love about the Olympics; my 11-year-old son was arm-wrestling me to watch women’s sport. When I was a young lady we didn’t make finals, let alone expect to make the podiums. There’s plenty more to come, so I’ll see you in Rio.
“It got to the point where 2012 happened and it was like ‘what happens next?'”
“My coach Jane Figueiredo has wanted me to do kickboxing, ballet, spin classes”.
The moment Daley informed his brother, Ben, of his sexuality was recorded in the documentary aired last week.
“I’ve changed one of my dives so now on all my dives I feel confident”. I feel good physically.
Daley celebrated with a glass of water as he is teetotal.
“I’ve been teetotal since September 2014”, he said. It’s given me a taste and now I want to go and get some more.

“I knew before we started that we’d be number eight and I knew no matter what situation we were in there would be loads of pressure going into it”.
