Tom DeLay: Trump Needs to Improve Presentation of Immigration Plan

Trump’s campaign announced Tuesday that he will make a surprise trip to Mexico on Wednesday to meet with President Enrique Pena Nieto before his scheduled speech.

Trump’s new half-change of heart led to a baffled round of headlines as well as some truly awesome writing on the right, like this National Review piece that said conservative hawks are confident Trump “will land on a sensible immigration policy – even if the events of the past week have made clear he doesn’t know what he’s talking about”.

“These worldwide gangs of thugs and drug cartels will be – I promise you, from the first day in office. we’re going to get rid of these people”, Trump said Saturday in Iowa. Lately, Trump has been trying to clarify his views about overhauling the USA immigration system.

To keep illegal migrants out, Trump has promised to build a wall on America’s southern border-to be paid for, he has declared at rally after campaign rally, by Mexico.

“But the lesson in how he’s run his campaign – and frankly in how he’s run his businesses – doesn’t give you confidence that he would surround himself with a lot of capable people”, he said. Most people in the crowd said they did.

It’s not clear whether as president Trump would seek to challenge the status of such children, whom he has called “anchor babies” – a term derided by immigration advocates. “You don’t get friendlier”, Trump added.

Now with less than three months before the election, Trump faces a hard path to the White House because of his narrow appeal, and his sky-high disapproval ratings among minorities. And perhaps his biggest problem is the fact that he continues to underperform among college-educated whites – in part because many of them find his rhetoric offensive. In an interview with CNN last week, his new campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said the question of whether he would create a deportation force was “to be determined”.

In a Fox News town hall taped August 23 in Austin, Sean Hannity asked Trump if he would change any part of the law to “accommodate those people that contribute to society, have been law-abiding, have kids here”.

I honestly think that Republicans are not really serious about winning the election; otherwise, they wouldn’t have fielded a largely divisive candidate as Trump. Trump, I love you, but to take a person who’s been here for 15 or 20 years and throw them and their family out, it’s so tough, Mr. Trump, ‘ I have it all the time!

Without offering any details about his plan or how he plans to make certain legal immigrants are not affected, Trump boomed, “these worldwide gangs and cartels will be a thing of the past”.

“Donald Trump is on the right track”.

He said there would be no path to legalization for undocumented immigrants unless they leave the country.

Once the initial deportations of undocumented workers who are criminals occur, he said, “then we can talk”. Clinton also says she would prioritize kicking out violent criminals.
