Taboo reteams Hardy with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, telling a story co-written by Hardy and his dad, who is named Chips Hardy.

Taboo is set to premiere sometime in early 2017 on FX in the United States and BBC One in the United Kingdom. But his father’s reputation only causes more trouble for him, so he must tread lightly in order to stay alive and discover the mystery behind his family.

The show is also executive produced by Hardy alongside Ridley Scott and Steven Knight, who created the eight-episode drama series. The first four episodes will be directed by Kristoffer Nyholm and the last four by Anders Engström (“Jordskott”). Starring opposite Hardy will be Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones), Jonathan Pryce (Game of Thrones) and Michael Kelly (House of Cards).

The series follows James in 1814 as he returns to London after spending time in Africa – enough time that people assumed him dead – and attempts to manage what’s left of his father’s shipping empire. But his father’s legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. The complex hero then enters a risky game of conspiracy, murder and betrayal as a dark family mystery unfold before him.
