Tomlinson, Giants outlast Diamondbacks 7-6 in 12 innings

Crawford doubled to drive in Posey. After two walks loaded the bases, Cueto singled to right field to drive in one, and Bradley’s wild pitch enabled the final run of the inning to score.O’Brien’s pinch-hit homer in the third inning, the only hit off Cueto in the first six innings, made it 5-1. “Hard-fought”, Bochy said. “Huge win, obviously, to come back like that and lose the lead a couple of times and end up winning the game”. “They know it”, Arizona manager Chip Hale said.

Attendance: The Diamondbacks announced a crowd of 32,301 human beings, including a guy who played a between-innings scoreboard game and for some reason announced: “I have plenty of experience drinking by a pool”. Gearrin came on in the 12th and moved to the outfield for a batter so the Giants could play the matchups.

“Any way to help the team win is great, and to do it with the bat just kind of adds a little bit more versatility, I guess”, Tomlinson said. Here, Bradley tossed 30 pitches in the frame, allowed four hits, four runs and trailed 5-0 at this time of his departure. They also held onto occupancy of the top wild card position, a half-game in front of the Mets and a game in front of the Cardinals. He reached on an infield single to shortstop, took second base when Owings made an errant throw and scored on Brandon Belt’s single.

Pence took an extra-base hit away from Mitch Haniger in the bottom of the ninth with a sliding catch in the right-field corner.

Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner gave up four runs and six hits in six innings.

-Counting his 10th inning homer, Jake Lamb is now 4-for-8 lifetime against Santiago Casilla, and all four hits have left the yard. I think that’s a ball.

Arizona tied it on a walk, a stolen base and center fielder Denard Span’s fielding error on Chris Owings’ two-out fly ball to deep center. Pinch-runner Socrates Brito scored on the play, but Owings was thrown out trying to score.

San Francisco Giants’ Angel Pagan celebrates his home run as Arizona Diamondbacks’ Welington Castillo, left, kneels near the plate during the seventh inning of a baseball game Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, in Phoenix.

Jensen, called up from Triple-A Reno on September 3, entered as an injury replacement for A.J. Pollock in the top of the second. Well, I needn’t say any more, need I? He was activated from the 60-day disabled list before the game after coming back from a right elbow injury and threw 43 pitches before leaving for a pinch hitter. He struck out six and walked two in his fifth start against Arizona this season. The Giants’ total of 19 hits against five Arizona pitchers was three short of their season mark. Nunez was slow running up the line on a sixth-inning single, but after being checked by a trainer he stayed in the game. Jensen was in the game only because outfielder A.J. Pollock injured his groin while running the bases in the first inning. Pollock only recently returned from his season-long rehabilitation of a broken elbow. Hale gave no update on Pollock’s status. Arizona C/OF Chris Herrmann will undergo surgery Tuesday to fix two broken bones in his left hand and will miss the rest of the season. With De La Rosa activated, infielder Nick Ahmed (hip injury) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

So the Giants will have two chances to win their 13th series in the last 14 at Chase Field when they send right-hander Johnny Cueto to face right-hander Archie Bradley on Saturday. He is 2-2 in the previous four starts.
