Tomsula channeling 49ers’ frustration, not making any big changes

The Arizona Cardinals did things on offense and defense we knew they could do and have the potential to do.

This game will serve as a momentum swing.

Against the Cardinals, however, he was on the other end of the spectrum, the most rotten performer on a team where everyone native to this hemisphere was lousy.

Notched 2 receptions for 37 yards and 1 TD at GB (1/5/14) (NFC-W). See how they can evaluate him as a player.

Health could be a factor in the outcome. “What he does for the team and what he does in the run game is unbelievable”. There’s nothing he can do but get back to practice and listen to his coaches. This isn’t good defense getting outclassed by better offense.

Miami’s Ryan Tannehill is a quality young quarterback, but he is not Brady, and a Bills team looking to prove itself is in good position to do just that.

Jerry Jones, the Cowboys’ owner, has seen his effusive praise of Weeden mocked. “It’s a situation where I’m not being asked to do things outside of my character”. He also caught two passes for 40 yards, making one of his trademark cuts on the sidelines on a 30-yard pass play.

PALMER KEEPS WINNING: Palmer won his ninth game in a row as a starter and his 15th in 17 games. “It’s not going outside our offensive scheme to try to make a play”, he said.

They look nearly exactly the same.

After a pair of comeback wins, the Falcons are healthier than the Cowboys. Kaepernick threw a career-worst four interceptions. But that is not the largest spread of the week: The Seahawks, despite being 0-2, are favored at home by 16 points over the Bears. Bears backup quarterback Jimmy Clausen, playing for an injured Jay Cutler, finished 9-of-17 for 63 yards. But at no point did the 49ers look capable of slowing the Cardinals, who racked up 28 first downs. No team should play to minimize a loss, and that approach failed anyway in the last two games.

The 49ers’ long-term answer at quarterback if Kaepernick can’t turn this around is…to jettison Colin Kaepernick at the end of the season, as designed by the deal the 49ers gave him two summers ago, which specifically allows them to dump him with very little effect if they so choose. Having the crutch of still being an explosive runner is a detriment to hanging in there to be a better passer. “I should have had the quarterback under center, and I should’ve handed the ball off and we should’ve grinded it up in there for 3 yards”. While the pressure is applied, it’s clear that Kaepernick is skittish in his footwork, a cardinal sin for any starting quarterback. The Cardinals counter with a five-man rush and a zone defense that takes away Kap’s first option, forcing him to go through his progression.

But this was a much different team than San Francisco has had following an offseason makeover.

THAT was the 49ers’ offensive plan, I think, if you boil out all the silly extraneous stuff about “letting Colin be Colin” and “paring down the playbook” and whatever the hell else the 49ers execs and coaches tried to sell. “We’ll figure that out as we go”.
