After 22 years in the game Luca Toni has chose to call it a day, bringing to an end a career that saw him win the European Golden Shoe, a World Cup with Italy, two German league titles and fans across the continent.

During his decorated career, the 38-year-old has won the 2006 World Cup with Italy, two Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich and the European Golden Shoe in 2006.
“After a bit of reflection, and many years in football, I just felt the right time had come to call it a day”, Toni told a news conference on Wednesday.
“I will feel a mix of joy and sadness, but I think it’s right for me to retire at home with Verona on Sunday against Juve”.
In his 22-year career, he has scored 156 Serie A goals in 343 games – for eight different clubs, including Roma, Fiorentina and Juventus.

Luca Toni also had a decorated National Team career, having played for the Italian National Team from 2004-2009, playing 47 games and scoring 16 goals. “Maybe I wouldn’t stop if we had had a good season”.

He was named in the all-star team at the 2006 World Cup in Germany after helping Italy to win the trophy for the fourth time.
