Tony Romo breaks bone in back, Cowboys set no timetable for return

As I reported during their preseason game against Seattle, there was a moment in the game where Tony Romo was clutching his back and was pulled out of the match.

An MRI on Friday revealed the extent of the damage.

The results were devastating to Romo and the Cowboys. According to CBS Sports, Tony Romo has a broken bone in his back. Surgery is not required.

The San Francisco 49ers face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4 of the 2016 season, and there is a decent chance they will be facing Dak Prescott and not Tony Romo.

Garrett broke the news to the team after practice Saturday morning. “We live in the world day by day, do what you can to get yourself better and we’ll update you as we go”.

Vernon said he wasn’t going to think too much about the situation until the appropriate time. Romo completed his lone pass of the game for 11 yards.

Later in the game, when asked about the status of Romo, owner Jerry Jones said Romo “is not injured”. “From that regard, I feel very lucky that it can hold up and I can keep going”.

“Dak has done a nice job”, he said.

Romo, 36, has not played a full season since 2012.

Romo missed 12 games in 2015 to collarbone and shoulder problems. Back then he suffered two fractures. “We’ve heard a wide range of possibilities in terms of when he would be able to play”. We are going to game plan the right way. “We are all optimistic he will be back soon and be ready soon and play at high level for us”. He has five passing touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns, and a NFL-leading passer rating of 137.8.

The 23-year-old insists that is no coincidence. “But the fact that I kind of came out of it this way kind of makes me feel like what I’ve been saying, my back is stronger”.

Taken in the fourth round of the National Football League draft – the 135th player selected – Prescott was considered a prospect not ready for immediate playing time. “The chemistry is there with the players”.
