As for Romo’s career, we’ll know more once there’s information about when he’s actually going to be back, which will help drive the speculation. The Dallas Morning News also reports that the best-case scenario is that Romo would return after the Cowboys’ Week 7 bye.

Without Romo, the Cowboys could start Dak Prescott, who has done well in the preseason.

During Thursday night’s 27-17 preseason loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Romo was tackled from behind by Cliff Avril on the third play from scrimmage as Romo scrambled from the pocket.

The Cowboys open the season September 11 at home against the New York Giants.

Prescott was elevated to the backup job when incumbent Kellen Moore broke his right ankle in a training camp practice. He is leading the National Football League in preseason passing yards with 454, and he has thrown 5 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. He said after the contest he planned to return but was held out by coaches. He’s even scored two running touchdowns and has no interceptions.
