Tony Romo Has Broken Bone In Back, To Miss 6-10 Weeks

FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys have not put a timetable on Tony Romo’s possible return, with coach Jason Garrett being so optimistic that he wouldn’t even rule out the quarterback for the September 11 season opener against the New York Giants.

After reports surfaced earlier on Saturday that starting quarterback Tony Romo would miss the next 6-10 weeks with a broken bone in his back, the Cowboys suddenly have a very serious quarterback problem on their hands.

“We’re confident that he’s going to be coming back and playing football for us this year”, Jason revealed, but he wouldn’t be pushed on when Tony will return to action.

During Thursday night’s preseason game in Seattle, Romo suffered a back injury that forced him from the game just three plays in.

Dallas Cowboys fans had high expectations for their team this season – as long as quarterback Tony Romo could avoid injury.

Dak Prescott, the Cowboys fourth round pick, is the presumptive starter for Week One and the team feels fairly good about what he can do.

Later in the game, when asked about the status of Romo, owner Jerry Jones said Romo “is not injured”. Romo also missed at one game each during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. “He’s going to get back right and come back stronger than ever”. Romo, 36, played in only just games in 2015, as he twice broke his collarbone and the Cowboys went down the tubes, finishing 4-12.

The Cowboys will now turn to Prescott who has had a sensational pre-season, completing 39 of 50 passes for 454 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions.

According to Garrett, Machota said, this recent injury is unrelated to the previous back injuries he suffered. He is in his mid-30s and has had several injuries that included his back, neck, and other body parts. It will be interesting to see what happens as teams game-plan against him a bit more. The injury continued a maddening injury trend that has sacked the Cowboys’ quarterback in recent years. He took the Cowboys to a field goal in the final two minutes of the first half.
