Tony Romo Injured Again, Out for the Season

NFL Insider Jay Glazer reported that Romo was pushing to get back into the lineup once he was eligible to come off injured reserve and that may have contributed to the second injury, as the collarbone may not have been fully healed yet for the quarterback. I think. Unlike other teams, the Cowboys have not sorted out how to win with a backup taking snaps, and although it is not beyond the realm of possibility that Cassel may get a win or two before the year is out, it hardly seems to matter on a team that has problems in nearly every facet of the game.

The Cowboys are 0-7 this season without Romo, including four games started by midseason acquisition Cassel during Romo’s first absence after Brandon Weeden lost three.

In the seven game losing streak without Tony, the team were only totally outplayed once (against the New England Patriots). They felt so good about the offensive line that they let DeMarco Murray, who had set the franchise’s single-season rushing record in 2014, bolt in free agency.

Some in the media presently speculate that Cleveland Browns quarterback – and former Heisman Trophy victor – Johnny Maziel might be a target of temptation for Dallas owner Jerry Jones if the former Texas A&M superstar is released. He’s more able to handle the work day to day and the work week to week so I think that’s improved. He said via Fox Sports, “I knew the risk I was running”. “You shouldn’t ever quit trying to do something that is extraordinary”.

“It”™s part of our message to provide perspective “” here we are, where we”™ve been, where we”™re going and how we”™re going to get there,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Monday.

Irvin: We start making those statements – OK, right now you got to start doing it. They’ve been looking for a replacement for Tony. Unfortunate for him, the collarbone was broken a couple of times this year. We do think the collarbone will heal.

Five games to play, and only two games out of a first place tie. He underwent two back surgeries in 2013 and fractured two transverse process in his back last season, costing him one game in each of the past two years. Now, he’s hardly played in all this season and hasn’t played a full 16 regular season games in three years.

If the Cowboys can somehow win the “NFC Least” with Moore, they have their long term answer at quarterback.

For now, Romo will stay involved with the team and connected with quarterbacks Matt Cassel and Kellen Moore.

Tim Tebow is usually always an option as well and he’s still looking for work. So far, Paxton Lynch of Memphis and Jared Goff of California are the top prospects, but Connor Cook of Michigan State isn’t a bad choice either.

The struggling Dallas Cowboys saw a glimmer of hope when star quarterback Tony Romo returned from his injury to play against the Carolina Panthers on Thanksgiving afternoon. Nothing will be said now, but some big decisions will need to be made in the offseason.
