Tony Romo Injured, Confirmed Out for Season

The Dallas Cowboys confirmed Friday that quarterback Tony Romo suffered a hairline fracture in his left collarbone and will miss the rest of the season.

“Bottom line is this has been a real shocker”, Jones said on KRLD-FM (105.3). All they had to do was overcome the three teams ahead of them in the standings and keep Romo’s fragile collarbone from crumbling into dust.

Romo injured the same left collarbone that sidelined him for all seven games of a losing streak that damaged the playoff hopes for the defending NFC East champion Cowboys (3-8). The big thing that prevented the Cowboys from having any success like they had in 2014, was not having their quarterback Tony Romo for most of the season. “And really having a fairy tale turnaround and doing something that was special, to me, that’s what we’re about”. Dallas was 0-7 with Romo out of the lineup.

Romo was replaced by Matt Cassel, who started four games in his absence.

“You have to step in and try to fulfill that role, ” Cassel said after leading Dallas only touchdown drive against the Panthers.

Romo, in only his second game back after injuring his left collarbone, suffered the latest setback when he landed hard on his left shoulder after being sacked at the end of the third quarter of Thursday’s loss to the Carolina Panthers. Despite a fairly solid effort from the defense that only gave up one touchdown to Cam Newton and the Panthers, Romo’s miscues made it virtually impossible for Dallas. The first one came with just under a minute gone in the first quarter. Romo turns 36-years old next season. He missed the last 15 games with Carolina last season because of his arrest in a domestic violence case….

“Whether you like it not, when you don’t play for eight weeks it’s tough to come back and be the guy you want to be”, said Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones.

“I’m just very disappointed in not giving our team a chance to win today”, said Romo, who was 11 of 21 with 106 yards and a 27.2 passer rating.

There isn’t much that Jason Garrett can do when the starting quarterback throws three interceptions in the game. Allowing just 19.1 points per game this year, Carolina ranks fifth in that department. The team couldn’t even get a win without him, so it’s awesome that they weren’t even out of the division race by the time he got back.

Kuechly intercepted two straight passes by Romo, returning the first 32 yards for a touchdown.
