Tony Romo likely out 8-10 weeks

And this is not the same back injury Romo played through previously in his career, either.

Romo is expected to undergo another magnetic resonance imaging exam this weekend, helping the Cowboys make a final decision on his status. Well when Romo plays and Dallas and doing half way decent, he most always gets hurt and sends them into a flurry of loses and other injuries. The team is reportedly working out former Browns quarterback Austin Davis.

It certainly wasn’t how the Dallas Cowboys drew it up, but all things considered, the development of Dak Prescott and debut of Ezekiel Elliott has given them some hope to start the season.

Prescott, as the new starter, will be given a room in the honeymoon suite. Dallas owner Jerry Jones hasn’t given any indication of the Cowboys will try to sign a veteran quarterback prior to the season opener. Based on what we’ve seen in the first three preseason games, the Cowboys will try to maximize Prescott’s skill set. Multiple sources say the time frame to return from his L1 compression fracture is precariously close to the length of time he’d be sidelined if placed on injured reserve/designated for return.

“I can’t imagine a scenario where Tony’s not our quarterback when he’s ready”, Jones said.

“Tony Romo’s bone is not weak”. After starting training camp as Dallas’ No. 3 quarterback, Prescott began his climb up the depth chart when backup Kellen Moore broke his right ankle in practice. I said he would, but looks like we were both wrong on this one. First-year player Showers was the only other quarterback on the current roster prior to Thursday’s signing of Johnson, although Dallas is expected to add an experienced veteran before the September 11 season opener at home against the New York Giants. CBS Sports reports that Romo is still the starting quarterback, though. He can’t take a hit for six weeks. That’s right. For all the armchair hating and guffawing at perceived choke jobs, if your name isn’t Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson, Tony’s got everyone else in that category beat. Dak Prescott may have been picked up late in the draft with the 136th pick but that is nothing compared to Brady’s legendary last round pick. I think a lot of that is people outside of this building have suggested what the timetable is. “But things happen. You know that”.

I know. Pump the brakes.
