Tony Romo reinjures clavicle, out for season

“I’m actually numb today”. You have to move forward.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo (9) is helped off the field by team staff after suffering an unknown injury in the second half of an NFL football game against the Carolina Panthers, Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, in Arlington, Texas.

After returning from the original broken collarbone – which occurred at Philadelphia in Week 2 – Romo threw a combined five interceptions against the Miami Dolphins and Panthers. In reality, the suspicion all along was that he had suffered a slight fracture of his left clavicle that didn’t show up on the initial X-ray that would be revealed by a CT scan on Friday. He’s out for the season this time. With the NFC East a shitpile at that point (for the record, it’s still a shitpile), the 2-7 Cowboys were a long shot to make it to the playoffs, but they technically had a shot. “[Romo] is a warrior”. “I didn’t want him to catch a single ball”. Obviously we don’t know the circumstances just yet, on what the prognosis is, but for everybody’s sake, we hope he’s OK. Kurt Coleman picked off Romo’s second pass of the game and took it back 36 yards for the opening score. He did not have surgery on the collarbone after his previous breaks.

When quarterback Tony Romo drove Dallas to the Carolina 3-yard line late in the first quarter, he had taken the Cowboys where the Panthers’ past two opponents never went. But that vanished in a flash four days later when Romo was again walking off the field holding his left arm up against his chest. “Your body kind of goes into a little bit of shock”, the quarterback said in an earlier Yahoo Sports report.

“I know Tony wanted it so bad, and sometimes you push”.

Jerry Jones was asked Friday about the risk of bringing Romo back too soon from the previous collarbone fracture.

The fact Rivera was concerned about an 8-yard rush by Darren McFadden – and that it was replayed as a highlight at AT&T Stadium – says a lot about the state of both teams, particularly as it relates to the Panthers’ run defense.

With Romo getting up there in age and the injuries piling up, the Cowboys will need to either draft a quarterback in 2016 or pick up a free agent.

He can also start the search for the next great Dallas running back now. This is the second time in six seasons that Romo has had his season end with a broken left collarbone.

But the offseason will have to wait.

This was a lost season for Cowboys fans who expected Jones to deliver them another Super Bowl. “That’s always is why we play the game”.

“We’re getting a pretty good read of what we are”.
