Top Pennsylvania prosecutor faces criminal arraignment

Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane will turn herself in Saturday on criminal charges linked to a grand jury investigation, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office told NBC10. Kane said in a statement that a resignation would be an admission of guilt and she’s not guilty. I believe this to be necessary whoever he or she may be and regardless of party affiliation, accomplishments, or any other factors. In a 2013 American Bar Association article, Mr. Greene argued that “an elected attorney general may have an incentive to bring certain kinds of popular or high-profile cases” – and that voters often struggle to gauge a candidate’s credentials. She is scheduled to be arraigned today in Montgomery County. “I am calling on her to step aside”.

“We will be closely monitoring the case as it moves through the courts and weighing our options as a legislative body if there is no other action taken to remove her from office”.

She is the second top state law-enforcement official charged this week, following Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who was accused of securities fraud and failing to register as a securities adviser. “This investigation and the charges filed today show, beyond all doubt, that no one is above the law; not even the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the Commonwealth”, said District Attorney Ferman.

Governor Tom Wolf said “no” during an appearance in Monroe County Thursday only hours after criminal charges against Kane were announced. When an elected official betrays the confidence and trust placed in her by the public, we must do everything in our power to hold her accountable.

Castille was named in Kane’s indictment. “At no time did she believe that she was asking or directing anyone to do anything improper or unlawful”. Last month, Metcalfe updated his resolution when a grand jury recommended charges. Last May a state judge appointed a Special Prosecutor to investigate allegations that statewide, confidential grand jury information may have been leaked to the media.

For instance, former Attorney General Ernie Preate Jr. resigned shortly after he pleaded guilty to federal felony charges in 1995.

Ferman announced earlier this year she would not seek re-election to the district attorney’s office, where she has worked since 2003.

Retired state Supreme Court Justice Ronald Castille, who authorized the grand jury probe that led to the charges, explained to The Associated Press how that expedited action would work.
