China won the gold medal for the women’s volleyball at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, bringing pride to the Chinese public amid reports that the country had a disappointing performance at the sporting event.

The jet – which will also be ferrying pole vaults, javelins, bicycles and a 6.7m sail back from Rio – was loaded with 77 extra champagne bottles and treats for team members, who were offered a three-course menu.

“So, yeah, I think it is the time and the place and the timing means that it is one of the best Olympics – the best sporting events we probably ever had”.

Double gold-medallist Max Whitlock tried out some of his gymnastics routine on the first-class seats and he and champion boxer Nicola Adams were the first two stars to emerge from the plane, standing at the top of the stairs as the rest of the athletes filed out to cheers and applause.

“No team has done what we have – improve five Games in a row, medals-wise”.

Away from the competition, the athletes behaved with everything from good grace to entitled brattishness, with moronic American swimmer Ryan Lochte the most obvious example of the latter. Andy was the flag-bearer and spoke to all of the team before the opening ceremony, spoke really eloquently about being part of Team GB and the importance of everybody doing everything they could to replicate London.

Serbia’s lone loss came to Brazil, who looked to be a Cinderella story in the making, starting the game on their home soil 3-0, delighting fans throughout the city. In the end, his team hung all of their gold medals around Krikorian’s neck as a sign appreciation for their strong leader.

Jamaica’s Usain Bolt drew down the curtain on his brilliant Olympic career by securing a sweep of the sprint titles for a third successive Games.

“Sport is a massively powerful thing”, he said.

Bach declared the Rio Games closed and expressed the hope that they had left a lasting mark on the metropolitan area of 12 million people.

But she returned from Rio with a bronze in the women’s 4x100m relay and is now looking to become an inspiration. “There you go. I’m the greatest”, Bolt had said.

Peaty was also praised by England for getting the Olympics off to a great start for Team GB as he broke the world record twice to take the 100m breaststroke gold. In the championship men’s soccer game, Neymar pulled out the win for Brazil over Germany by scoring the game’s first goal (the third most-tweeted moment), and then landing the gold medal-winning penalty kick in a shootout (the No. 1 most-tweeted moment).
