A series of tornadoes swept across eastern Colorado Saturday, causing several minor injuries and damaging motorhomes and buildings. Another spring storm brought deadly driving conditions to northern Arizona.
The National Weather Service Science said multiple tornadoes touched down in Yuma County, CO (about 100 miles east of Denver) last night.
Speaking in a telephone interview from his office in Goodland, Kan., Martin said that tornado also damaged some buildings and other structures.
The agency reports that a tornado developed just south of Interstate 76 over Weld County and then traveled north toward Morgan County Saturday.
“We had no idea it was a tornado”, said Jeanne Welham, who was in one of the toppled trailers. “We’re still trying to get the exact number”. Authorities say at least five people were injured, but everyone is expected to be okay.
Earlier in the day, officials say a tornado in Morgan County, about 65 miles northeast of Denver, damaged about a dozen fifth-wheel campers and caused some minor injuries.
More than a million people in Kansas and Oklahoma faced the threat of severe storms, which were expected to deliver large hail and possible tornadoes in the late afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
