The fast-moving storms wreaked havoc in Clarkesville, Mississippi, moving northeast towards the Ohio Valley, causing major damage in Sardis and Holly Springs, where the child was killed.
Two other people were killed and three more were missing in Benton County, Mississippi, Emergency Services Director Jimmy Gresham confirmed Wednesday night.

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, issued a Particularly Dangerous Situation tornado watch for the following areas: southeast Arkansas, far northeastern Louisiana, northern and western MS, and western Tennessee. The storm system also resulted in a massive tornado that touched down in northwest Mississippi.
There were reports of a second fatality, but Anderson said he had received no confirmation of additional fatalities in his county as of late Wednesday evening.
She said the people who lived in the house that was destroyed weren’t home. A 7-year-old was reported to be among the dead.
Large, unsafe tornadoes are a possibility as these storms push east, and flooding will be another concern. The coroner didn’t have details on how the boy died, but confirmed that it was storm-related.
“I’m looking at some horrific damage right now”. In Mississippi, Holly Springs in Marshall County appeared to be among the hardest hit areas by the tornadoes Wednesday afternoon. “Sheet metal wrapped is around trees, there are overturned airplanes, a building is just destroyed”.
“It was on the ground all the way through the county”, said Cole.

“It’s bad that this happened, especially at Christmas”, Jones said. Four other people in the house, including an 18-month-old, survived. Highs in Atlanta and Charlotte, North Carolina, today are forecast to be in the mid-70s.
