Courtesy of Mariah Foster (GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.) – Multiple tornadoes hit western MI on Saturday with more storms expected through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Turnage says parts of Allegan and Kent counties, and the outskirts of Grand Rapids are seeing some of the worst weather. There may have been touchdowns near Fennville and Hamilton.
Thousands of Consumers Energy customers are in the dark after reported tornadoes passed through parts of West Michigan and the Grand Rapids metro. Business signs were blown out of their frames, but there were no major reports of structural damage.
The damaging storm brought down trees and power lines, leading to over 25,000 power outages across the area, according to Consumers Energy.
There are no outages or damage reported in Kalamazoo County.
The spokesman also said it “could be a couple days before all power is restored because of the extent of the damage”.
One thunderstorm in particular tracked over the southwestern part of the state and produced a long-lived tornado threat as it moved from Bangor to Grand Rapids, a distance of over 50 miles.
There have been no reports of injuries.

National Weather Service meteorologist T.J. Turnage says Saturday that officials have seen “indications of tornados on radar, and very good indications they have occurred and debris lifted up with them”.
