A flash flood warning remaining in effect until 2 a.m. Wednesday for all of Cook and DuPage counties and the northwestern Will and southern Lake counties, according to the weather service.
The worst-hit communities could include Chicago, Cicero, Berwyn, Oak Park, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Lombard, Westmont, Maywood, Villa Park, Brookfield, Franklin Park, Hinsdale, Westchester, LaGrange, Forest Park, River Forest, Summit, Lyons and Burr Ridge.
The storm that prompted the warning actually passed right over the NWS office in Romeoville. The tornado was spotted near Chenao or Pontiac at 5:05 p.m., according to NBC Chicago.
Several suburban Chicago counties are beneath a twister watch Tuesday afternoon, bracing for a storm that has triggered a reported twister landing downstate.
