Tornado Watch Issued for North Texas Until 3 A.M.

A mile-wide tornado was observed near Pampa, Texas, Monday evening with major damage reported, including gas leaks and downed power lines, according to weather.com.

The storms are on the warm side of a winter storm, which is bringing blizzard conditions to the High Plains.

The National Weather Service will investigate those 38 storm reports to determine if any were duplicates and whether they were in fact tornadoes. Several homes were damaged but nobody was hurt.

The worst of the tornadoes and severe weather Tuesday should be in Arkansas, Louisiana, and MS, the prediction center said.

A statement Tuesday says Halliburton’s district office near Pampa recently closed and no chemicals or workers were at the location during Monday night’s storm.

The areas impacted with this significant damage are the areas of Farm to Market Road 749 South of Pampa, TX and East of Pampa on US Highway 60.

A BNSF train has derailed following a major storm in a nearby town, according to the Roberts County Sheriff’s Office. He says the 87-car train was headed from Wellington, Kansas, to Amarillo. But he says none of the storms struck heavily populated areas.

Emergency crews are working to contain a chemical leak after a tornado leveled a Halliburton chemical plant in Pampa, Texas.

Several businesses on Gray County Road 12 ½ sustained heavy damage with a few buildings destroyed.
