Tornado watch issued for portion of SC

Newberry County, SC (WLTX) – People says they had to act fast to avoid injury during Wednesday’s apparent tornado that touched down in Newberry County.

The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings for Lancaster County until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A localized area near Southern Pines and Wadesboro has an “enhanced” tornado risk, forecasters said.

Gusty winds, hail and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out during the late afternoon and evening hours.

Things will improve by Thursday with only a few scattered showers through late afternoon Thursday. Flash flood watches Wednesday covered large parts of Georgia and the Carolinas.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue to move through North Florida and South Georgia.

The newspaper also reports numerous trees have been toppled and there are multiple reports of property damage near the Davie County line.

Numerous thunderstorms are expected to develop today. The worst of the weather now is expected to affect regions further north, with the possibility of severe weather locally rising Wednesday. Friday will be dry and sunny with highs in the 80s.
