Several homes have been destroyed in Graves County, along with flipped trailers and cars.

According to police, they were notified that a severe thunderstorm had produced a tornado at about 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10 near Mayfield. The First Baptist Church of Mayfield opened its fellowship hall and said displaced families were already arriving for emergency shelter.

According to police, the tornado traveled close to the buildings, but initial reports show they were able to avoid any significant damage.

The weather service said a tornado touched down about 1 mile west of Avilla in Saline County about 10:30 p.m. Monday and ended about two miles northeast of the city.

The storms led to various watches and warnings for Middle Tennessee, with a brief Tornado Warning in Montgomery County that ended at 9 p.m. and a Tornado Watch for much of Middle Tennessee, which was in effect until 11 p.m. Tuesday. Mayor Cantrell asks people to not come out to see the damage. Thankfully, no deaths have been reported in Kentucky as of the latest news reports.

The storm destroyed homes as well. In the east, Kentucky, southern OH, southern IL and southern IN are all at risk for bad weather, including tornadoes.

More scattered storms are in the forecast for the next couple of days. Smaller hail and “damaging winds” have also been reported in western Iowa.
