Toronto Blue Jays complete busy week; acquire Ben Revere from Philadelphia

Price’s tenure with the Blue Jays literally got off to a bumpy start Friday when his vehicle blew out a tire on his drive from Detroit to Toronto.

The Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals were two of the busiest teams at baseball’s trade deadline. It was the sixth career multi-homer game for Zobrist.

And hyperactive general manager Alex Anthopoulos may not be done.

The homer caps a whirlwind week for Flores, who wept on the field Wednesday night thinking he was about to be traded to the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night. Sales for Sunday’s and Monday’s game are double what they normally would be, he said.

Jepsen was 2-5 with a 2.81 ERA in 46 games this season for Rays.

“He’s having an outstanding year”, Anthopoulos said.

In Price they get a proven veteran and high-level starter to bolster a team with a powerful offense. Today he started with the bullpen, and finished with the outfield. With the trades of Lowe and Ackley for minor leaguers, the Mariners, now 12 games out of first in the AL West, have pulled the plug on the 2015 season. “(Lowe) could pitch anywhere seventh, eighth, ninth, depending on what’s going on. “He’s got that ability”.

A career. 292 hitter, Revere is batting. He has 169 stolen bases.

Revere’s game is quite simple: he puts the ball in play and runs like insane. Ben Revere gives them another league-average outfielder, and while LaTroy Hawkins and Mark Lowe won’t make any big headlines, they will shore up the bullpen depth.

Revere’s speed can be an asset for the Blue Jays.

“I kind of like the way it’s set up now”, Gibbons said.

As a part of the deal, the Phillies will pay the balance of Revere’s salary this season.

Nick Wells is ranked as the Blue Jays’ 23rd best prospect according to MLB.com, and the 19-year-old southpaw is considered to have the highest upside of any pitcher involved in this deal.

“Sweet tire blew out on my way to the six”, he posted on Twitter just after 10 a.m.

Tulowitzki and starting pitcher David Price give Toronto two magnificent weapons. He retired nine in a row after that and 16 of the final 17 men he faced in all.

A few teams came calling, including the Blue Jays.

“It’s definitely a plus”, Price said.

“With this team, you’ve got to be on your Ps and Qs at all times”.

“No, I mean everyone sees what he does on the mound but he’s an incredible person”, Chamberlain said.

A noted fan of the popcorn at Rogers Centre, Price already had a gift awaiting him: six bags of popcorn were placed inside his locker, along with a welcome note from the team.

“With the trades that happened this week, I think what it gave us was more confidence in ourselves”, said Donaldson, who had four RBIs. “Best popcorn EVER”.

“It makes it easier on the manager, that’s for sure”, he said with a chuckle. R.A. Dickey takes the hill, and he’s 5-10 with a 4.27 ERA and 84 strikeouts this season.

Madson wasted little time in erasing any chance Cueto had at winning his Royals debut.

The Blue Jays haven’t reached the postseason since beating the Phillies in the 1993 World Series.

The 27-year-old, left-handed Revere is expected to join a platoon in left field.

“It would be nice to sign him long-term”, Del Greco said.

The Blue Jays also traded left-handed pitcher Felix Doubront to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for cash considerations.
