Toronto taxi drivers prepared to strike during NBA All-Star weekend

This move stands to piss off not only the city’s residents and politicians, but waves of visitors to the city for the NBA’s marquee weekend.

“This is not only a protest about anti-Uber, it’s also about anti-John Tory, John Uber Tory the mayor”, said Sekhon.

UberX, Uber’s most popular ride-sharing service, has been a hotly debated topic in Toronto with city councillors on both sides of the debate.

The Toronto Sun reports the United Taxi Workers Association has plans to usurp the frivolity with a protest it hopes will bring a spotlight to cab drivers’ plight in their battle against the onslaught of Uber.

On Tuesday, taxi drivers in Quebec City staged a noisy protest, honking their horns and circling the National Assembly on the first day of the winter session. “They are wrong. It would only hurt our valued customers and give Uber exactly what they want”.

City staff have since been working toward new regulations for Uber and the taxi industry, which are expected to be presented in the coming months.

“But I want you to know that I value your contribution and I’m going to keep fighting for you”.

Drivers confirmed Wednesday morning they will block Trudeau airport as of 8 a.m.as they gathered outside Place Versailles at 6:30 a.m. and Place Cote-Vertu at 7 a.m. We wish Mayor Tory and Chief Saunders felt the same. “He’s such a poor mayor, we can’t have a mayor like this”, he told Breakfast Television. They say that a massive strike will take to the streets of Toronto on Friday, February 12th and they plan to interrupt traffic on routes heading into the downtown core, like the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway. “We can’t have the city closed down in that manner and the law enforcement officials will have to take whatever steps they deem appropriate if that sort of thing is engaged in again”, said Tory. What’s more, it’s leaving a ton of money on the table by taking drivers off the road during a peak couple of days that Uber alone will probably struggle to meet the demand of.
