Toshiba introduces Windows 10-powered 2-in-1 DynaPad tablet

“Digital notebook” is probably Microsoft’s respectful way of not calling the Toshiba dynaPad a Surface Pro clone.

This isn’t the first DynaPad tablet release by Toshiba. Now looks like every other company is following Microsoft.

Key among these is its extra-special stylus. It’s a Wacom Active Electrostatics TruPen that combines with metal mesh sensor technology to detect 2,048 levels of pressure – double that of the Surface Pro 4 and its latest Surface Pen. Moreover, you also get a few Toshiba suite of business apps for any more activities.

Clearly not fussed about the DynaPad’s similarities to the latest Surface tablet, Terry Myerson, executive vice president of Windows devices, said: “Microsoft is proud to work closely with Toshiba and excited about the new line up of Windows 10 devices”. The 12-inch display, though only sporting a 1920×1280 resolution, has that same aspect ratio that is described to resemble the size and dimensions of a physical notebook. It certainly isn’t the only 2-in-1 device with a pen on the market but claims that it would feel more natural to the form factor of notebooks than its competitors. Toshiba tells us that this is the thinnest and lightest 12in Windows 10 tablet in the world, measuring in at 6.9mm and tipping the scales at 569g (minus the keyboard).

Indeed, excluding the dynaPad’s hard keyboard dock, it comes in under the Surface 4’s 9.1mm (0.36 inches) depth and 757-gram (1.66lb) weight. Details on the hardware of this Windows 10 tablet are slim at the moment, but we can at least expect a new Intel Skylake CPU running the show.

But you can pre-order it in Japan starting today, which is should keep them enthusiasts momentum.

There’s no firm word on pricing yet, but Verge reckons it should cost in the region of $1,000 before tax. I’d say, it just might be the right candidate to give heated competition to others.
