Governor Susana Martinez declared a state of emergency on Sunday in response to the snowstorm, CNN reports. Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia earlier took similar measures.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Anthony Bain in Fort Worth said two or possibly three tornadoes touched down in the Dallas area although the full extent of damage would not be known until daylight Sunday.
The rare December twisters flattened homes and knocked cars off of highways.
“The little boy was hanging on to the back of the auto”, Tyler said Saturday.
In the hardest-hit Dallas suburb of Garland, authorities confirmed eight fatalities after a tornado packing winds of up to 200 miles per hour bore down on the city.
People assess the damage to a storage facility destroyed by Saturday’s tornado in Garland, Texas, Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015.
More than 600 buildings in North Texas have been damaged. Another driver was found dead in his vehicle in a creek.
Tornadoes are most likely to occur during spring and summer, but not during winter season.
Another three deaths were reported in Collin County, said Lt. Chris Havey, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office. Forecasters said parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin could see up to 10 inches of snow.
“We need you to remain vigilant”, he told a news conference, urging residents to take cover, and stay off the roads if possible.
Three others died in other parts of Texas, bringing to 29 the number of people who have been killed by severe weather in the USA this month.
The Emergency Management Department says that snow and powerful winds knocked out power to as many as 60,000 homes and businesses.
As severe weather continues across the State of Texas, Governor Abbott declared a state of disaster in the following Texas Counties: Collin, Dallas, Ellis and Rockwall Counties. Late Saturday, one death was reported in Alabama. At least 12 people were killed and another is missing after vehicles were swept off roads by floodwaters in separate incidents in both states, according to officials. Warnings were issued for tornadoes in parts of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama and Mississippi.
The high temperature in Dallas on Saturday was 82 degrees, which plummeted to 41 degrees on Sunday and will drop into the 30s on Monday.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin declared a state of emergency as there were blizzard conditions and an ice storm warning out west and flood warnings in the east, where one community had received 9 inches of rain.
“The storm system will gradually pull away by Tuesday, but flooding and treacherous travel could linger into midweek”.
