Danny Rose scored a second-half equaliser to cancel out James Milner’s penalty as Tottenham Hotspur were fortunate to come from behind to draw 1-1 with Liverpool at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

Erik Lamela clipped Roberto Firmino in the box, with referee Bobby Madley pointing to the spot with James Milner duly stepping up to convert.

Liverpool, having begun to settle, applied some pressure of their own and it took two superbly timed sprints from goal from Vorm to deny Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum, before he saved another low shot from Coutinho from close range.

Spurs’ draw meant that they have taken five points from their first three games and Pochettino still feels they are “a bit behind” where they should be in terms of fitness.

Spurs striker Harry Kane is yet to score this season, but having taken seven games to open his account last term – which ended with him winning the Golden Boot – manager Mauricio Pochettino is not anxious.

Jürgen Klopp believes there are plenty of reasons to believe in Liverpool despite he left White Hart Line disappointed after his side were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham.

With Spurs on the defensive, it allowed Liverpool to not only go on the attack for a portion of the first half, but it meant that Tottenham were unable to high-press as it would leave gaps in their 4-2-3-1 formation.

Danny Rose’s second-half strike gave Tottenham a point after Liverpool looked on course for a second successive away win in north London.

Pochettino said: “I am very pleased, it was a very competitive game, both teams played with passion. We showed again that we can be really good and that’s what we have to show in each game and then everything will be good”. Kyle Walker had a desperate 25 minutes of misjudgements and lost tackles until he was withdrawn, apparently unwell, and we wait to see whether he is included in Sam Allardyce’s first England squad today. “The only decision we made is that Milly can play it, especially in the kind of play we think we should play”.

Two minutes later, Mane had the ball in the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside with Adam Lallana fractionally the wrong side of the Spurs defence.

Joel Matip saw his header kiss the top of the crossbar from a Reds free-kick on 52 minutes. “Sitting here with four points after three games is not what I wanted but this is our base and we will build on this base”. “I’m not surprised he can play there”.
