Tottenham are bookies’ title favourites

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday laughed off Leicester City counterpart Claudio Ranieri’s claim that his team are the favourites for the Premier League title.

“If you remember the end of last season, our aim was to reduce the gap to the top teams, and we have learnt and improved a lot in that respect…”

” I think there is Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City who fight for the title and there is little Leicester who fight against them”.

“We need to know that we are the youngest squad in the league, so full credit to them and the club”. For us, it’s important to keep our level, our fitness, our mentality and we’ll see what happens.

Pochettino praised the fans following Sunday’s 2-1 win over Swansea, hailing the “perfect connection” between players and supporters in the comeback win at White Hart Lane.

“It is a very important game, a derby, and you can not split the emotion from the game”, Pochettino said.

Seeking a first Premier League title since 1961, Tottenham missed out on a seventh straight league win.

To the players who encountered Levy at the training-ground canteen on the day of the anecdote, it was perfectly natural to greet him with a handshake. And if Levy was surprised – perhaps the chairman suspected a wind-up – then here was an illustration of how Pochettino has changed the culture and personality of the dressing room and, in turn, the club.

By far the team with the best defense in the league, Tottenham has only allowed more than one goal in only three games all season long.

Payet told West Ham’s official website: “It is very nice to hear that people have said that about me”. It’s impossible to talk about this as a decisive week.

Tottenham face West Ham tomorrow night in their last ever trip to Upton Park, whilst Leicester host West Brom tonight.

Pochettino has certainly built a great team and the departures of more mercurial talents such as Etienne Capoue, Emmanuel Adebayor and Andros Townsend undoubtedly stemmed from his belief system.

“Maybe I’m biased but they should be more happy with the result than us, because it could have been more”.

Tottenham have the meanest defensive record in the league at the moment with just 21 goals conceded from 27 games, and Alderweireld has been one of the steadiest centre backs in the Premier League.
