Tottenham confirms Harry Kane ligament damage, no return date set

Kane had to be stretchered off after badly turning his ankle in a sliding challenge on Papy Djilobodji, having earlier scored the game’s only goal in the 59th minute.

The striker, last season’s most lethal scorer in the Premier League, is facing a spell on the sidelines just when his campaign was getting going after a frustrating few months.

Spurs snapped up Netherlands global Vincent Janssen from AZ Alkmaar in the summer transfer window as backup for Kane – and now the Dutchman’s quality is set to be tested.

Speaking in his pre-EFL Cup press conference, Pochettino said: “He has injured his ankle ligaments”.

Adnan Januzaj was also sent off but the Lads remained in the game until the final whistle – something they failed to against Everton – and Pienaar believes there were positives to take from the encounter.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is reminded of a young Lionel Messi when he watches teenager Marcus Edwards.

Son has been Tottenham’s stand-out player in their last two Premier League games, scoring twice against Stoke City before being named Man of the March in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday (18 September).

Best of luck to Harry Kane, and we wish him a speedy recovery.

Lloris said: “We used to say that we have a competitive team and I think we are very confident in every player”.

Tottenham are close to announcing further deals for full-backs Kyle Walker and Danny Rose, and they are also in talks with Erik Lamela, Jan Vertonghen and Harry Kane.

Pochettino confirmed that Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele, who were replaced against Sunderland with hamstring problems, would be assessed but said he did not expect “a big problem” for either, while Danny Rose could return for Saturday’s trip to Middlesbrough.

“When one player is missing, it gives an opportunity to another player to bring his skills, his energy, his qualities and his strength”.

Spurs have generally enjoyed a good start to the domestic season after initially drawing two of their opening three league games.

Mauricio Pochettino conceded post-match that the player may have sustained ligament damage, with tests undertaken yesterday. “We need to wait for the diagnostics”.
