While Manchester United teenager Marcus Rashford continued his staggering rise, scoring a delightful goal to secure a 1-0 win at Manchester City in his debut derby, Kane was busy enhancing his claim to being England’s top striker.

In their remaining eight league fixtures, Manchester City have to face Southampton in the 36 round followed by a game against the Gunners at the Etihad Stadium, and going by the form book, it would be no surprise if they manage to lose both the matches.

Some might argue that they are feeling the pressure by scraping narrow 1-0 scorelines in their past four victories in the league.

Liverpool have not won a league title in 26 years while Manchester United have looked a shadow of themselves since Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. “The gap that Leicester have over us and Arsenal and Manchester City, we need to reduce”. Only seven games stand in Leicester City’s way if they are to complete the fairytale of lifting the Premier League crown come May.

Mark Hughes’ Stoke side have been a revelation in the Premier League since the Welshman took over from Tony Pulis in May 2013 and now boast a side including talents such as Marko Arnautovic and Xherdan Shaqiri. They have scored 45 goals in 30 games.

Arsenal is 11 points back with a game in hand, which at this rate seems too much to overcome. This point is particularly crucial for Man City, because they are the archetypal flat-track bullies, in that they thrash weaker sides but struggle massively against sides around them in the table. Nevertheless, after setting a new Serie A record over the weekend for most minutes without conceding a goal, Buffon knows a thing or two about the game and is evidently a keen follower of the Premier League.

Tottenham is still five points back of first place Leicester City and has scored a league-best 56 goals in 31 games this season.

I feel it is easier to play when you are at the top, because you have the winning mentality formed by having beaten many teams to reach the top.

The 26-year-old garage manager insists he is still confident his side will win the title following three successive nerve-filled 1-0 victories.
