Tottenham Hotspur moved to third in the Premier League table after Harry Kane scored in a 1-0 win over Sunderland on Sunday at White Hart Lane.

Papy Djilobodjican do nothing to stop Kane after his error.

Although the goal had clearly been coming, Sunderland suddenly sparked into a little more life.

Sunderland ended the game with ten men, Manchester United loanee Adnan Januzaj sent off for a second booking.

A bolstered midfield saw Didier Ndong make his first Sunderland start with Lee Cattermole joining the new signing in the starting XI.

David Moyes was forced to reshuffle the deck just before kick-off as Patrick van Aanholt was pulled out due to injury, Jason Denayer took his place at right-back instead. Son’s left-footed attempt was deflected behind, while the brilliant Pickford clawed out Sissoko’s troublesome cross right under the bar.

He flashed a deflected shot just over in the first half with Pickford beaten and set up Son after the break, but his best work was in the first phase of attack when Spurs countered quickly.

Kane went close again soon after, swivelling well inside the box only for Pickford to be quick off his line to close the striker down, but it didn’t bode well for Sunderland.

INCIDENTS: Premier League fixture at White Hart Lane.

The scoreline could have been worse for Sunderland but for outstanding goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, 22, who made a string of saves to keep his side in the game.

HARRY Kane silenced his critics with a second half strike which was good enough to secure three points for Spurs against lowly Sunderland. Lloris down low to save. “But I think after what he has been doing, especially against Stoke the other week, and now he is showing that he deserves to play in that team”.

Dele Alli believes Tottenham’s dominant performance was the ideal response to their midweek Champions League defeat as they eventually overcame Sunderland 1-0 at White Hart Lane. Son would find the side netting a couple minutes later.

Spurs’ only pre-match doubt is Danny Rose, though Sunderland haven’t been quite as fortunate on the injury front.

Jermain Defoe latched on to Pickford’s punt down field but was unable to steer past Hugo Lloris, and on the stroke of half-time Steven Pienaar had the goal at his mercy six yards out, but somehow picked out Kyle Walker on the line. It should have been a goal. I got word of something very late. Continue to lose and Sunderland could start the winter cut adrift. It didn’t work, as Denayer was terrorised by Son Heung-Min throughout.
