Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino discusses timeframe on Harry Kane injury return
Pochettino denied that the team will have to change their tactics following the loss of Kane, who has been sidelined with a ankle/ligament damage for an indefinite period after limping out of his side’s 1-0 win over Sunderland having scored the only goal. “I said one of the best centre-backs in England, and I wasn’t one of the best in Spain”.

After Harry Kane was effectively run into the ground over the last two years, Tottenham had to bring another striker to the club to cover for Kane in case of injury of suspension. We chatted before in the restaurant, he’s in a very good way. “It is impossible to assess today”. He said that another academy player, the 19-year-old striker Shayon Harrison, would have made the squad but for a groin injury.
A prolonged absence for Kane could also hit England, who have a World Cup qualifier against Scotland at Wembley on November 11. “I asked him what he was like and he said he is not fantastic at anything, he is not the quickest, he is not the strongest, he is not the best in the air, but his all-round game is fitted to the way Tottenham play”.
While the responsibility of leading Spurs’ line will fall on Janssen’s shoulders starting in the League Cup’s third round against Gillingham (if he starts), Pochettino will be expecting goals from his second line of attack too (Christian Eriksen/Son Heung-Min, Dele Alli, Érik Lamela/Moussa Sissoko).
While Edwards and Carter-Vickers are considered prospects for the future, summer signing Vincent Janssen is under pressure to deliver now after Harry Kane was confirmed to have injured ligaments in his ankle.
Janssen’s mother Annemarie is a former three-time Olympic medallist while sister Frederique represented her native Holland in the pool at last year’s European Games.
“Vincent arrives in a good moment – he’s ready to compete”, Pochettino said.
“You can see [Vincent’s] qualities. We need to be positive now the damage is done”, Pochettino said.
“Yes it’s important to help him.it’s a good opportunity to build his body, his fitness, his mentality, to work hard on different aspects and help him become more strong”.
He added: “He needs to be calm and just play and be sure he has opportunities to score”.
